Better Hair May Be a Sign That the Economy Is Buzzing

Don't look to Donald Trump for any proof of this trend, but the LA Times reports that an increase in spending on salon visits and hair care products may signal that the economy is recovering. Trips to the salon were less frequent during the downturn, but now that things are looking up, folks are going to salons more frequently for touch-ups. Sales at beauty salons grew 5.4 percent in 2011, compared to 2.3 percent in 2009, according to financial information company Sageworks. Profit margins for hairdressers are also up, as more people go to get their hair done.
